Alright yall, I'm thinking of going for a dog either this summer or next. I was wondering, what did you do about the air port, or whatever to get there? I mean, I'm really a nervous and timid person, whether it seems like it or not. lol. So, I mean, how do you get through it? what's it like? Is it truly hard?

First of all I'd call ahead to find out exactly what kind of help if any, you will recieve. Then go by their reaction as to which airport you use.
I have been through a few and it's not much fun, can be stressful and don't be surprised if they offer you a wheelchair, it can and does happen.

It's not bad at all. I am a big scarety cat, I did it and had no problems what so ever. I actually did it a couple of times. hehehe There is always someone there to help you. No need to stress. Just when you boo your flite tell them ahead of time you need assistance!

I do it once a month at the very least, and have never missed a flight. Like Shea said, when you book your flight, tell them you need help. When you check your baggage, make sure they know you need help, and when you get to your boarding gate, identify yourself to the gate agent, and sit close to the desk. That way, you won't be forgotten accidentally. The same goes for your connecting flights. Communication is important.

k, well, it's just one flight I think... maybe... I hope. Jesse, I'm going to New York, my guide dog's gonna be a yankee! but thanks yall

just wondering, about how much does it cost a month for dog food and maintinence? lol, mostly concerned about the food part...

Post 8 by Preciosa (The precious one and her littledog too.) on Thursday, 07-Sep-2006 17:09:45

it all depends on the amount your dog eats and the brand of food. My dog, Abbie, eats about three and three quarter cups of food a day and she eats Beneful...i can get her a twenty pound bag for about eighteen bucks and that lasts about four and a half weeks.
now, you have to factor in heartwor preventative and flea treatment which are sold in bulk so you only have to buy those about every three months or so. those are pricy but like i said, not a monthly expense.
Other than that, lots of dog food companies have email lists that send out coupons pretty regularly which help out...basically, it depends on your preferences and the dog's food intake.

No matter how much it eats you must ensure it's good quality food dogs suffer from cheap food.

Keep in mind, some schools do assist with the cost for heartworm and flea prevention. I went to Guide Dogs in California, and they cover those costs.
